The Eagala Model incorporates a licensed Mental Health Professional and a qualified Equine Specialist working together with horses and clients as equal partners in an experiential process that empowers life-changing outcomes…
Eagala provides an innovative solution that provides a unique space for an emotionally safe, hands-on experience for clients. With real-time feedback, clients are able to reach issues where traditional talk-based therapies leave off.”
By moving from a traditional office setting to an arena, horses can become a therapeutic tool in the healing process. Working with an equine partner allows a client to gain valuable insight into their own behavior patterns, choices, relationships, and emotions. It is through this experiential approach that clients are empowered to develop their own solutions on their terms.
Due to their consistent authenticity, horses are among the best teachers and guides for personal growth and development and frequently serve as a mirror of dynamics in the client’s life.”
The Eagala Model and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a team approach that includes an experienced Mental Health Professional, a qualified Equine Specialist, and horses working together with the client. All of the work is done on the ground with the horses front and center, deliberately unhindered and never ridden or controlled, allowing them to interact with the client(s) as they wish. This creates the space for the client, with the support of the professional facilitators, to reflect, project, and make deep connections.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy promotes personal exploration of feelings and behaviors, opportunities to enhance self-awareness and allows for clinical interpretation of feelings and behaviors. EAP denotes an ongoing therapeutic relationship with clearly established 15 treatment goals and objectives developed by the therapist in conjunction with the client. No horseback riding or knowledge of horses is required.
EAP may be used for people with psycho-social issues and mental health needs that result in any significant variation in cognition, mood, judgment, insight, anxiety level, perception, social skills, communication, behavior, or learning.
Other Mental Illness, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism, Receptive or Expressive Language Disorders, Personality Disorders, Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, etc. Major Life Changes such as environmental trauma, divorce, grief and loss, etc. may also benefit from these services.
