Why Horses?

By moving from a traditional office setting to an arena, horses can become a therapeutic tool in the healing process. Working with an equine partner allows a client to gain valuable insight into their own behavior patterns, choices, relationships, and emotions. It is through this experiential approach that clients are empowered to develop their own solutions on their terms.

Due to their consistent authenticity, horses are among the best teachers and guides for personal growth and development and frequently serve as a mirror of dynamics in the client’s life.”

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)

The Eagala Model and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a team approach that includes an experienced Mental Health Professional, a qualified Equine Specialist, and horses working together with the client. All of the work is done on the ground with the horses front and center, deliberately unhindered and never ridden or controlled, allowing them to interact with the client(s) as they wish. This creates the space for the client, with the support of the professional facilitators, to reflect, project, and make deep connections.

The program is goal-based and can be tailored to individual needs. Our participants gain the ability to trust and earn trust, experience peer/community support, improve communication and relationships, and much more.

This program is primarily ground-based, but can, in some cases, progress to incorporate mounted riding, depending on personal goals.

These ground-based sessions can quickly show us how people think and respond in everyday situations. In each session, participants are challenged to work through real-life problems and situations as a team.  All participants have the opportunity to develop confidence, leadership skills, team dynamics and provide insight into non-verbal communication.

How can a horse make all the difference? Working with a horse is like looking in a mirror. It will highlight individual strengths and weaknesses, help them determine what works and what does not, and develop and apply new skills that will translate to every-day situations.
